Employability Power of Purposeful Volunteering

Tue 9 Jun 2026 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM BST Online, Microsoft Teams

The Employability Power of Purposeful Volunteering workshop will offer practical insights into how Imperial Health Charity’s Volunteer Employability Programme uses volunteering as a pathway into skilled, career-progressive roles. Participants will learn the role volunteering played in progressing individuals with no prior NHS experience to successfully interview for entry-level clinical and non clinical roles within three months of targeted employability support.

During the session, Maryam Bello-Tukur MIEP, Employability & Volunteering Programme Manager at Imperial Health Charity will explore:

  • The power of intentional volunteering to build confidence, transferable skills, and career clarity
  • Practical strategies for embedding volunteering into employability pathways
  • Real-life case studies of volunteers successfully transitioning into employment
  • A hands-on scenario challenge to design inclusive, volunteer-led employability models

Participants whose organisation does not currently offer volunteering opportunities will leave with actionable ideas on how to integrate experiential learning through partnerships, coaching, and curriculum design.

Important to note: Imperial Health Charity have maintained a 65% job outcome rate since launching the programme, with their highest at 92%. Participants on the programme do not receive guaranteed interviews, they apply competitively, are shortlisted, and progress through standard recruitment processes. They do not support people into tradition entry-level roles such as cleaning, catering or retail.
